SIARGAO ISLAND, Philippines (June 27, 2026) — The Local Government Unit of General Luna has officially begun major preparations to host the surfing discipline of the upcoming 2028 Asian Beach Games. The milestone event was set in motion today following a strategic courtesy call and coordination meeting at the Mayor’s Office, hosted by Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Romina Rusillon-Sajulga.
In a unified effort to ensure international logistical readiness, the United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA)—alongside Donald Caringal and Richard Lim of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)—facilitated a technical ocular inspection across the municipality. The national delegations partnered closely with the Siargao Island Surfers Association (SISA) to assess infrastructure, accommodations, and medical facilities, ensuring compliance with rigorous international sporting standards.

While the main body of the 2028 Asian Beach Games will be hosted in Cebu, General Luna has been designated as the official battleground for the surfing competition. As a premier sporting highlight, the event will welcome elite athletes from 45 participating Asian countries to compete on Siargao’s world-renowned waves.
This multi-agency collaboration marks a historic landmark for Philippine sports. By combining the technical expertise of UPSA and SISA with the dedicated support of the local government and the PSC, the initiative solidifies General Luna’s reputation as a world-class sports tourism destination on the global stage.
