What is UPSA?
The United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA) is the National Governing Body for Surfing in the Philippines. UPSA is the sole recognized National Sports Association (NSA) for the development and promotion of surfing in the Philippines. This recognition was granted by the Philippine Olympic Committee
(POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) through Republic Act 6847.
Moreover, UPSA is a sports management organization that offers unique coaching and guidance to help surfers, enthusiasts, and coaches of all levels, create a sustainable career.
What does UPSA do?
UPSA hosts the country’s premiere professional surfing championship tournaments with multiple competitions held at different regions around the Philippines. As the official NSA for surfing, acted on RA 6847 otherwise known as The Philippine Sports Commission Act, UPSA is exclusively responsible for developing and promoting the sport. This includes:
- the identification and training of athletes,
- the creation of competition and event opportunities, and
- the establishment of rules and regulations for the sport.
What is Pilipinas Surfing?
UPSA hosts the country’s premiere professional surfing championship tournaments with multiple competitions held at different regions around the Philippines, these competitions are popularly known as Pilipinas Surfing Nationals.
Membership & Registration
What are Membership Plans?
Before you can register for events, you must first need a Membership Plan with UPSA.
UPSA offers 2 Membership Plans:
- Annual Membership Plan (valid for the entire tour)
- One-Time Membership Plan (valid for 1 event only)
If you are planning to register for multiple legs, we highly suggest that you purchase the Annual Membership Plan.
Important notice:
Membership Plans are waived for the 2024 Season.
What are the qualifications to join?
Residency Eligibility
National tour participants must be a Filipino citizen to enter (wild cards, invited to attend by the governing body of UPSA is the only exception. Whereas no points will in any circumstances be awarded to non-Philippine nationals).
Age Eligibility
- Open Shortboard/Longboard Division: open to all ages.
- Junior Boys & Girls Division: Must be 18 and below as of 31st December in the year of competition. Registrants that are turning 19 years old during the year of the National Tour is not allowed.
- Masters Division: Must be 40 years and above at the time of the competition
What are your payment policies?
The UPSA Rule Book, Chapter 3, Section 1.5. states that “Registration and event fees must be paid 72 hours prior to the event call date. Whereas the online event registration will close 72 hours prior to the start of the event date.”
Thus, failure to pay your registration fees 72 hours before competition proper will forfeit your registration.
Can I refund/withdraw my registration?
Participants may choose to withdraw their registration from any competition sanctioned by UPSA. However, refunds will only be allowed 72 hours prior to the event start date or prior to the publishing of the official heat draws.
Any requests for refunds after the 72 hour mark or after the official heat draws are published will not be accepted.
