San Juan, La Union, Philippines –The second day of the United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA) High Performance Longboarding Workshop in La Union centered on intensive competitive simulation through a series of structured mock heat sessions.
The day’s training started with a 25-minute mock heat, the primary objective of which was to allow participants to develop and implement heat and wave selection strategies, subsequently evaluating the efficacy of their pre-determined game plans.

Following this initial simulation, two subsequent 30-minute mock heat sessions were conducted. The first of these aimed to facilitate learning and strategic adjustments based on the insights gained from the initial heat, with an emphasis on increasing overall wave counts. The final 30-minute heat challenged participants to perform at their maximum capacity, with a specific focus on executing and securing a “Hang Ten” maneuver.

These rigorous mock heat sessions provided a valuable platform for participants to refine their competitive skills and tactical approaches under simulated pressure, contributing significantly to their overall development in high-performance longboarding.
This afternoon, the workshop will delve deeper into competitive analysis with a dedicated video analysis session of the morning’s mock heats. Additionally, participants will gain invaluable insights from UPSA National Coach, Ian Saguan, and Rogelio “Jay-r” Esquivel, the 2024 Men’s Longboard Tour Rank 4 athlete.
