Local Government Unit Intensifies Efforts to Elevate Unique Attractions and Secure International Recognition for its Surfing Gem
BARAS, CATANDUANES – The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Baras is embarking on an ambitious journey to significantly enhance its tourism landscape, strategically positioning its unique offerings for both national acclaim and international recognition. At the forefront of this initiative are the municipality’s burgeoning Gastronomy Tourism, thrilling Eco-Adventure Experiences, and the globally renowned, majestic waves of Puraran Beach, which is set to become the undisputed centerpiece of Baras’s tourism identity.

The LGU’s comprehensive strategy aims to diversify and enrich visitor experiences, moving beyond traditional attractions to showcase the rich culinary heritage and the exhilarating natural playgrounds that define Baras. However, it is the legendary “Majestics” break at Puraran Beach that is being championed as the municipality’s signature draw, a move intended to firmly establish Baras on the world surfing map.

A significant driver behind these enhancements is the LGU’s primary goal to qualify for the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG). This esteemed recognition, awarded to outstanding local government units in the Philippines, signifies adherence to good governance principles and effective service delivery. In tandem with this national pursuit, Baras is also actively seeking international certification from bodies such as the International Surfing Association (ISA) for its surfing operations. Such certifications are deemed crucial for elevating the operational standards and global appeal of Puraran Beach, transforming it into a premier, internationally recognized surfing destination.

To meet these stringent international standards and ensure the delivery of high-quality services, the LGU has unveiled plans to establish a dedicated Surf Academy in Puraran. This academy will be meticulously managed by ISA-certified instructors, ensuring professional and standardized surf training. The initiative aims not only to cultivate local surfing talent but also to professionalize surf instruction, further reinforcing Baras’s burgeoning status as a world-class surfing hub capable of nurturing future champions. Through these concerted efforts, Baras is poised to unlock its full potential, offering unparalleled experiences while solidifying its place as a beacon of sustainable tourism and surfing excellence in the Philippines.
